How these roles work
Blamed (Causer)
Fans named this player as the direct cause of a negative outcome. Examples: "Maguire gave away the penalty", "Ten Hag's formation cost us". Scores are amplified when the causer is blamed clearly.
Sympathy (Victim)
This player was on the receiving end of something — a foul, a bad decision, being dropped, or let down by teammates. Fans feel for them rather than against them.
Credit (Beneficiary)
Fans gave this player clear credit for a positive outcome — a goal, an assist, a key moment. Includes players who enabled something good to happen. This is the co-winner of a match moment.

Burnley's Controversial Comeback and Disallowed Goals
Emerging
Fans are discussing Burnley's dramatic attempt to recover from a 3-0 deficit, with many arguing the team deserved at least a point after having two goals harshly ruled out by officials. The discussion reflects frustration over the controversial decisions and Burnley's inability to secure a result despite their impressive comeback performance.
Football Fans Debate Controversial Match Decision
Emerging
Users are expressing mixed reactions to a contentious incident during an ongoing match, with many criticising the decision as unfair or excessive. The predominantly negative responses suggest frustration over what fans perceive as poor officiating or harsh treatment, though opinions remain divided on the severity of the situation.
Victory Marred by Poor Performance and Controversy
Emerging Controversial
Fans are discussing a controversial win that, whilst securing three points, was widely criticised for the team's poor quality of play and questionable circumstances surrounding the result. Despite the positive outcome, many supporters expressed frustration and disappointment with how the match unfolded, with some questioning whether the victory was worth the manner in which it was achieved.
Fans Call for Offside Rule Overhaul
Emerging
Football supporters are expressing frustration with the current offside rule, particularly regarding marginal decisions involving body parts like shoulders and the use of VAR to enforce these tight calls. The consensus is that the rule needs significant reform, with many arguing that only the body part used to score should determine offside status, rather than any part being marginally ahead.
VAR Handball Decision Sparks Fan Controversy
Fans are divided over whether VAR correctly overturned a goal for handball, with many arguing the evidence was not "clear and obvious" enough to reverse the referee's initial decision. The debate highlights widespread frustration with VAR's inconsistency in handball rulings and calls for reform of how the technology is implemented in football.
Newly Promoted Team's Impressive Away Form Divides Fans
Controversial
Fans are debating a newly promoted team's strong performances in away matches, with some praising their exciting football and resilience, whilst others express concerns about referee decisions and fixture scheduling that could affect their survival next season. The discussion reflects mixed optimism about the team's prospects, tempered by worries about potential disadvantages they might face as a promoted side.
Brentford Fans Debate Squad Selection and Performance
Emerging Controversial
Brentford supporters are discussing recent team selections and defensive performances, with particular focus on goalkeeper Kelleher's absence, Nathan Collins being dropped as captain, and concerns about the centre-back options. Opinions are mixed, with some fans questioning tactical decisions and player consistency whilst others defend the manager's choices.
Inconsistent Handball Decision Sparks Debate
Fans are frustrated with a handball decision in the match, with most believing it was an incorrect call given the player's arm position. The controversy is compounded by perceived inconsistency, as similar incidents in other matches (particularly involving Manchester City and Arsenal) were either handled differently or not penalised at all.
Damsgaard's Outstanding Performance Sparks Fan Debate
Fans are celebrating Damsgaard's impressive match performance, which included two goals and an assist, though some humorously debate whether he deserved the man-of-the-match award. The discussion also touches on other notable player performances, particularly comparing Thiago's goal-scoring record to that of other top strikers.
Controversial Referee Decisions in Football Match
Fans are discussing a contentious refereeing decision from a football match, with particular sympathy expressed for Burnley's misfortune in what appears to have been a last-minute goal incident. The neutral sentiment reflects mixed reactions, with some finding entertainment value in the dramatic moment whilst others feel the decision was unjust.
Brentford And Burnley Draw In Thrilling Match
Fans are discussing an intense, high-scoring football match between Brentford and Burnley that ends in a 4-4 draw, with reactions ranging from excitement and relief to frustration over a disallowed goal. The neutral sentiment reflects the mixed emotions of supporters as both teams trade goals throughout the match.
Fans Praise Exceptional Football Match Performance
Social media users are enthusiastically celebrating what they consider one of the best football matches in recent times, with multiple posts expressing excitement about the game's thrilling nature and quality of play. The discussion highlights impressive individual performances and memorable moments that made the match particularly memorable for supporters.
Controversial VAR Handball Decision Angers Fans
Fans are divided and largely frustrated over a VAR decision that ruled out a goal for handball, with most arguing the contact was incidental and not deliberate, and calling for reform of how handball rules and VAR are applied in football. The majority sentiment reflects anger at how strict interpretation of the handball law is damaging the sport and costing teams vital results.
Burnley Fans Call for Scott Parker's Sack
Fans are expressing frustration with Scott Parker's management and tactical decisions following a poor defensive performance where the team was heavily outplayed. Multiple supporters are calling for the manager's removal, criticising both his tactical setup and in-game adjustments as the primary reason for the team's inability to compete.
Hannibal Shines with Brilliant Assists Display
Fans are praising Hannibal's exceptional performance, particularly highlighting his outstanding assists, including a sensational cross for Burnley's third goal that drew widespread admiration. The discussion also touches on some controversial refereeing moments, such as a disputed free kick claim, though the overall focus remains on Hannibal's impressive individual contribution to the match.
Fans Celebrate Unexpected Football Goal
Supporters are enthusiastically celebrating what appears to be a surprising or dramatic goal during a football match, with the positive sentiment reflecting excitement about their team equalising or scoring an important moment. The humorous references to "a quiet afternoon" suggest the goal came unexpectedly, delighting fans who are expressing their joy through celebratory posts and messages.
Fans Criticise VAR's "Clear and Obvious" Decision Making
Football fans are frustrated with VAR reviews that take excessive time to reach decisions, arguing that if a call requires several minutes to determine, it cannot genuinely be "clear and obvious" and should default to the on-field decision. Many call for greater transparency in the review process and faster decision-making, comparing football unfavourably to rugby's more efficient and openly communicated VAR system.
Fans Condemn VAR After Burnley Decision
Supporters across multiple football clubs have expressed strong frustration with VAR following controversial decisions that disadvantaged Burnley in a recent match. The discussion reveals widespread sentiment that VAR is ruining the game, with fans arguing it particularly penalises lower-tier teams and diminishes the enjoyment of football.
VAR Offside Decisions Spark Fan Frustration
Football fans are debating controversial VAR offside calls that led to Burnley goals being disallowed, with many arguing that marginal decisions involving arms and shoulders shouldn't result in goals being ruled out and claiming there's inconsistency in how similar decisions are handled across different teams. While some defend the strict interpretation of the offside rule, others call for changes like the "daylight rule" to prioritise the spirit of the game and encourage attacking play.
Debate Over Offside Measurement Precision in Football
Emerging
Fans are discussing whether offside should be called based on millimetre-perfect measurements or a more lenient interpretation, with disagreements about where to draw the line and whether the current 150mm margin of error is sufficient. The conversation reflects broader frustration with how strict offside rulings are applied in modern football, despite most participants acknowledging that some boundary must exist.
Kayode's Difficult Performance Sparks Concern
Fans are discussing Kayode's poor performance during the match, with many expressing concern about defensive mistakes and his overall contribution to the game. The sentiment is sympathetic rather than harsh, with supporters worried about the impact on his confidence rather than being overly critical.
Burnley Fans Outraged Over Controversial VAR Decisions
Fans across multiple clubs are expressing frustration about two Burnley goals being disallowed by VAR during a recent match, with many arguing the decisions were incorrect and unfair. The discussion highlights broader concerns about inconsistent refereeing in the Premier League, with some suggesting that bigger clubs like Manchester City and Arsenal receive more favourable treatment than smaller teams like Burnley.
Confusion Over Arm Position in Offside Decisions
Fans are frustrated with recent offside rulings that disallowed goals based on a player's arm being in an offside position, arguing that since you cannot score with your arm, it should not count towards determining offside. The discussion reflects widespread disagreement with how referees are interpreting and applying the offside law in relation to non-scoring body parts.
Fans Criticise VAR Decisions in Football Match
Football fans are expressing frustration over what they believe were incorrect VAR decisions during a match, with many arguing that the video assistant referee system failed to properly review a controversial handball incident. The discussion highlights broader concerns about inconsistent officiating standards and human error in VAR decision-making across the Premier League.
VAR Controversy in Disputed Brentford Match
Fans are debating controversial VAR decisions that disallowed Brentford goals due to offside and handball rulings late in the match. Whilst some argue the decisions were correct and necessary, others feel the outcomes were unfair, with discussion centring on whether VAR has genuinely improved football or simply shifted where mistakes occur.

I don't think adding a time limit for VAR would help them make better decisions as it's added pressure. But when it takes 5 minutes looking at every replay 20 times, surely you just stick with the on field decision. ▲ 61
Get over it and take the points away from home against a dogged and determined Burnley. No cheating there, just some tight calls against the home team… I feel for their fans, but that’s football. ▲ 61

I can stomach the offside, it's not in the spirit of the rule (no real advantage), but it's objectively measurable and he was measurably offside and that's how it's been applied since VAR came in. The second was harsh, I've still not seen … ▲ 12
I think that’s a bit of an overreaction. They’ve largely been good this season. And we’re honestly supposed to be in a relegation battle if Pundits at the start of the season were anything to go by 🤣. ▲ 8

"I’m not a Burnley fan, but the officiating in this match was absolutely terrible. Two clearly good goals disallowed for no reason. Burnley def deserved the 3 points after that incredible fightback. "This game was absolute cinema but you gotta feel bad for Burnley. They did all of that hard work coming back from 3-0 down just for VAR to ruin it."
Burnley only have themselves to blame, they were 3-0 down for a reason and that wasn't VAR fault
VAR is becoming a joke and this is coming from a neutral between these two teams. The fact we’re counting offside and bringing in VAR to nitpick literal millimetres is ridiculous and goes against the fact that the offside rule was meant to prevent a *CLEAR* and unfair advantage.
@Okus477 but the rule doesnt say that...
@magikarpsplashy It’s common sense that there’s no advantage by disallowing it due to literal millimetres mate, that’s the point I’m making. There’s no explicit law against driving a tank through a car wash but it’s common sense not to.
@lawrencehaynes6408 Yeah, but were robbed of a draw, and this is coming from neither a fan of Burnley or Brentford.
@Okus477What a stupid comment. The player was offside, that's it. There's no use complaining about a matter of fact decision.
@Okus477offside is offside. Theres always a paper thin line between offside and onside.
@G@Gooner184 Then explain to me, instead of “stating a matter of fact”, otherwise you’ve failed to prove anything I’ve said in more detail.
@dan@danpreston564 Again, failed to explain anything relatively beyond “no, you’re wrong”.
@Okus477where do you draw the line then (literally)? Millimetres, centimetres? Wherever it ends there is always an edge case.
"VAR is killing the game. That offside is ridiculous."
But it was offside, facts don't care about your feelings 😂😂
agreed and theres times in the game where it meant to go to var but doesnt like le fee foul in the Bournemouth game clear pen but not given or dint go to var
@lawrencehaynes6408no it wasn't, you can't be offside with your arm/shoulder.
@ClaretandBlue1983 can you score the goal with shoulder?
@lawrencehaynes6408they've literally been measuring from the armpit the whole season and suddenly it's middle of the arm. They're just making it up as they go along
@pawelk1020No that's why you can't be offside with your shoulder, because it's not a goal scoring limb.
@ClaretandBlue1983oh dear. You can be offside with your shoulder because you can score with your shoulder.
@ClaretandBlue1983please learn the laws before commenting next time.
@LetsTalk.mbest not to chime in when you don’t understand the law. The armpit is about what is a handball. Look at the offside. The shoulder above the armpit is offside because you can score with your shoulder.
@danpreston564ok my bad, but you can't be offside with your arm, THAT is what the offside was given for.
"Can't wait for the championship var has killed every emotion regarding scoring"
Isn't it in the championship next season?
@jameshepburn81 no
Its noy VAR its the bad referees. How can one be handball and then that same arm was offside. If its offside then no handball and if it is handball at the end then the first goal can't be offside. The refs are bad not VAR
It hasn't. You celebrated those two disallowed goals didn't you. The roof came off with that Barnes goal. How on earth can you equate that to "killing every emotion" you dope
@highnoon7097bro are you dumb or what? Half the time when you score not you are still looking at the TV too see if VAR is gonna do something. You can’t actually celebrate like people used too. Not that hard to understand is it
Both goals should've stood like what is the offside rule anymore, and how was that a handball. Games gone.
@highnoon7097calling him a dope when he complains about celebrating only for it to be chalked off minutes later. If anyone's the dope it's you
Good luck, hope you come straight back up +
I was always of the opinion that ref's decision should be final. even if they've made a howler. it's all part of the game, win some lose some... that's the drama we love. VAR has solved nothing at all because blatantly 'wrong' decisions still get made after VAR review, so what's the point.
@highnoon7097why was the 2nd disallowed?
"You just gotta feel bad for Burnley bro, 2 massive goals ruled out."
That makes no sense. One would have taken the lead not won it and the other would only have been a winner if the first disallowed goal stood.
Of side hand ball its not volleyball
Correctly ruled out
And Ashley Barnes scored one
They sued Everton for getting a points deduction in the same season they were relegated last time. I zero sympathy for them. My only regret is that Forest and Leeds won't both be joining them. Though 2 out of 3 will do
@russmawson6744 Had a stroke typing. Meant to say dramatic goals...
Brentford will say they could have had a pen first half and themselves have had those lines go against them for offside. it was handball it just hurt more because it was the end of the game and the offside call but you cant just give it for that reason
@jacksmithjkdefo, geezer had Kayode in a headlock
@W1NTXRBoysnah we understood…just some didn’t
Both were ruled out correctly, so VAR done its job.
"the 3 minute wait to cancel out burnley's 4-4 equaliser was because they were giving the ref confidence to break the news to them again 💀"
It was actually 6 minutes.
The referee might be from Blackburn
It wasn't handball! You can clearly see that on the second replay, daylight robbery
@MihailBFC hits his arm, but he doesn’t control it, it just hits him so yeah, it should have stood
@ASAP_Gilbertit brushed his arm but it came off his hip..so yeah, the goal should have stood
@ASAP_Gilbertif it bounces off his hip and doesn’t touch his arm Barnes doesn’t control it as easy. His arm clearly helped bring it down for the finish.
@ASAP_Gilbert doesn’t even hit his arm 😂 absolute joke
@TehEwglet I have a picture where you can see that the ball hit his hip first, that's not handball.
@TehEwglet thats what im saying

I don't think adding a time limit for VAR would help them make better decisions as it's added pressure. But when it takes 5 minutes looking at every replay 20 times, surely you just stick with the on field decision.

A lot will be made about the Barnes goal, but a draw is almost as bad as a loss at this stage. It was a must win game, if we wanted even half a chance of staying up, and it was over once Brentford scored their 4th.

The rule is so dumb. It hits his arm in a natural position and he scores after. But if he gave a pass and they scored from it, then it will count. Also a VAR review taking more than 1-2 minutes should just not be a thing. It stops being a clear and obvious error after that

I can stomach the offside, it's not in the spirit of the rule (no real advantage), but it's objectively measurable and he was measurably offside and that's how it's been applied since VAR came in. The second was harsh, I've still not seen conclusive evidence, and I don't know ho…
