How these roles work
Blamed (Causer)
Fans named this player as the direct cause of a negative outcome. Examples: "Maguire gave away the penalty", "Ten Hag's formation cost us". Scores are amplified when the causer is blamed clearly.
Sympathy (Victim)
This player was on the receiving end of something — a foul, a bad decision, being dropped, or let down by teammates. Fans feel for them rather than against them.
Credit (Beneficiary)
Fans gave this player clear credit for a positive outcome — a goal, an assist, a key moment. Includes players who enabled something good to happen. This is the co-winner of a match moment.

Challenger 100% only get that red because the ref forgot he was on a yellow BUT Leeds have actually triggered our kryptonite, sitting in a low block with 10 men
Believer Another absolutely VILE performance. I can't wait for this manager to go.
Yes i agree that we can win when playing poor. But, our side is actually good enough to play well. Stach, DCL, Gabi... all solid midtable quality players. Arguably Rodon, Bijol, and Ampadu usually are as well. That should be enough for better quality football than what we've just witnessed.

Yeah I saw that after the comment, watching live I didn’t think Bijol actually touched him at all

I agree with the commentator, it did look like he maybe got the ball rather than Stach from that first replay. It's alright to change your mind when the second angle showed he clearly didn't though

Nothing will happen to the ref, not a single thing will be said by mainstream media but if the tackle for Gudmundsson happened to a Liverpool player, The Athletic would have 5 articles by tomorrow morning and Carragher would have a 30min segment on MNF solely about that mess. To compound the referees utter incompetence, is the fact there isn't a single fan, player or pundit that would say the Gudm…

I mean a lot of chances which look easy are only about .2 to .4 xg meaning there chances the majority of times a striker would miss statistically speaking. I think people underestimate the goalkeeper as well unless a player has a literal open goal it’s still a difficult chance as you need to be fairly precise a lot of the time to beat a good premie…

@IrishPeacock @LUFC Don’t think there will be any apology, the tackle was boarder line, but plenty of yellows given for those fouls. Gudmenssun (spelt wrong I know.) knew he was getting a yellow for it, that’s why he was rolling around holding his foot.

+0.633 reddit ▲ 1 factual contradiction length sweet spot
No but in reality if you understand football, a second yellow has to a definite yellow to justify sending someone off. That was a questionable yellow at best, most refs would have just given a foul
+0.616 reddit ▲ 1 factual contradiction length sweet spot
Fair. I think refereeing is a bastard hard job. So much to focus on and get right. And we judge them only for what they get wrong. But knowing who you've booked? This is basic stuff. He totally fucked it today.

Bijol needs to be careful. Palace are clearly going to try and play for the second yellow. Still can’t believe DCL missed that man.

Brennan Johnson, on a yellow card, should have received a 2nd booking for his tackle on James Justin in the 74th minute. That would have given Leeds 16 minutes plus injury time to score and go home with the 3 points. Later on, Palace was denied a goal due to Johnson being offside.

Fan Narratives
Premier League Refs Under Fire For Inconsistency
Emerging
Fans are absolutely fuming about what they perceive as wildly inconsistent and biased refereeing decisions, with widespread frustration that officials are either incompetent or deliberately corrupt. The criticism ranges from calls across multiple matches lacking any coherent standard, to accusations of deliberate prejudice against specific clubs, with many demanding wholesale changes to how the Premier League operates its officiating.
Leeds Draw Leaves Fans Divided on Progress
Emerging Controversial
Leeds supporters are split on whether a goalless draw represents a decent point or a missed opportunity, with some accepting the result given injuries and rivals' performances, whilst others criticise the team's attacking impotence and worry about dropping points in a tight promotion battle. The discussion reveals frustration at not capitalising on chances despite defending reasonably, though there's acknowledgment that rivals like Spurs also struggled that weekend.
Ref's Shocking Memory Lapse Ruins Match
Emerging
Fans are furious that a referee issued a soft second yellow card to a player after apparently forgetting he'd already booked him minutes earlier, with many arguing it was never a yellow offence in the first place and only became a sending-off because the official lost track of his own disciplinary record. The consensus is damning: this was incompetence so glaring that it should cost the referee his job, with several supporters pointing out the referee only sent the player off when alerted by players themselves.
Referee Controversy Sparks Conspiracy Theories Among Fans
Emerging
Fans are fuming over what they perceive as a shocking penalty decision and broader pattern of poor officiating that they believe is deliberately working against their team. The negativity has escalated into accusations of hidden agendas from match officials and the FA, with supporters expressing sarcastic resignation that nothing will change despite the blatant errors.
Glasner's Rigid Tactics Blamed For Toothless Attacking Play
Emerging
Fans are furious that their team failed to register a single shot on target during an entire half against ten men, with the overwhelming consensus being that manager Glasner's inflexible 3-5-2 formation has sucked all attacking creativity and urgency out of the squad. The criticism goes beyond one match — supporters argue his tactical stubbornness has systematically broken down player confidence and respect, making them question why the board hasn't moved him on months ago.

Referee's Inconsistent Card Decisions Spark Fury
Emerging
Fans are furious that Gudmundsson received a second yellow card for a tackle whilst Brennan Johnson — who committed multiple fouls deemed equally or more serious — remained on the pitch, with supporters arguing the referee applied wildly different standards to the two players. The perceived inconsistency has dominated discussion, with many suggesting Johnson should have been sent off instead, leaving the fanbase questioning the match official's decision-making throughout the game.
Johnson Offside Drama Divides Fan Opinion
Emerging
Fans are locked in debate over whether Brennan Johnson was genuinely in an offside position when receiving a pass back, with some arguing the call was clearly wrong whilst others defend the referee's decision based on positioning relative to the last defender. The discussion is further complicated by separate frustration that Johnson escaped a potential red card earlier in the same sequence of play.
Controversial Goal Sparks Divided Debate on Player Form
Emerging Controversial
Fans are split on whether a player's recent goal represents genuine quality or just another moment that masks underlying inconsistency, with some defending his talent and blaming circumstances (new signings, tactical misuse, manager issues) whilst others argue he's simply not delivering when it matters. The neutral sentiment reflects this genuine disagreement—praise and criticism exist in near-equal measure, revealing a fanbase genuinely unsure whether they're watching a player in decline or one being let down by his environment.
Canvot's Red Card Celebration Divides Opinion
Controversial
Fans are sharply divided over Canvot's decision to celebrate an opponent's sending off, with some viewing it as unsporting and classless whilst others find it entertaining and funny. The controversy highlights a broader debate about what constitutes acceptable behaviour on the pitch and in the aftermath of disciplinary moments.
Crystal Palace Fans Baffled by Questionable Decision
Palace supporters are calling out what appears to be a controversial moment from a recent match—likely a refereeing decision or a player's error—with the overwhelming reaction being disbelief and frustration. The vague, fragmented nature of the posts suggests fans are still processing what happened, reacting more with exasperation than substantive analysis.
Leeds United Fans Erupt Over Controversial Refereeing Decision
Emerging Controversial
Leeds United supporters are absolutely fuming over what they believe is a clearly wrong refereeing call during a match, with fans accusing the officials of disgraceful decision-making and suggesting the club "got away with" something they shouldn't have. The backlash is so intense that fans are even criticising the club's official account for not responding quickly enough to the controversy.
Palace Fans Face Reckoning Over Glasner's Future
Emerging
Crystal Palace supporters are deeply divided and despondent following a frustrating result, with many arguing their team lack the creative quality and squad depth to sustain Premier League safety under manager Oliver Glasner — whilst simultaneously fearing his potential departure could be even worse. The discussion reveals genuine anxiety about Palace's trajectory from established top-flight side to relegation-form outfit, with some fans blaming board investment failures and others questioning the club's on-pitch behaviour and dishonest play.
Palace Controversy Dominates Referee Criticism Debate
Emerging
Fans are furious with the referee's performance in a Palace match, believing he heavily favoured the home side and made poor decisions that should have gone against them. The discussion centres on alleged inconsistent officiating, playacting from Palace players, and accusations that the ref was essentially biased towards keeping Palace in the game.
Sarr's Injury Drama Sparks Referee Controversy Debate
Emerging Controversial
Fans are divided over whether Watford's Sarr was genuinely fouled or theatrically exaggerating contact with Everton's Bijol, with particular anger directed at the referee for allegedly appeasing home supporters rather than making objective decisions. The controversy centres on conflicting accounts of how Sarr sustained a bloody lip, with many suggesting simulation and poor officiating undermined the match's integrity.
Fans Survive Dramatic Finish, Emotions Everywhere
Controversial
A match has gone to the wire with an absolutely nerve-shredding conclusion that's left supporters oscillating between relief, disbelief, and manic laughter. The overwhelmingly chaotic response suggests a last-minute outcome — likely a goal, VAR decision, or dramatic turn — that had fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
Referee's Shocking Double-Book Incompetence
Fans are furious that a Premier League referee issued a second yellow card to a player without realising he'd already booked him earlier in the match, with many arguing the decision would never have been made if he'd been paying proper attention. The incident has sparked outrage about basic officiating standards and whether the red card should be overturned, with supporters questioning how such a fundamental error is acceptable at the highest level of English football.
Farke's Composure and Sideline Antics Under Scrutiny
Emerging
Fans are divided over manager Daniel Farke's touchline behaviour and tactical decisions, with some praising his restraint in avoiding a red card whilst others mock his animated antics and question his substitution timing. The broader tension centres on whether his game management is genuinely impressive or whether it masks deeper issues with his team's late-game execution.
Fan Division Over Contested Player Display
Controversial
Fans are split down the middle on a player's recent performance, with some calling it embarrassing and unbelievable whilst others urge patience and acceptance. The conversation reveals genuine disagreement about whether the display warrants criticism or deserves faith going forward.
Nmecha Substitution Sparks Tactical Debate
Emerging
Fans are divided over the manager's decision to substitute Nmecha instead of DCL during the match, with most arguing that keeping the in-form striker on would have been the better tactical choice. The discussion reveals frustration with the manager's team selection and substitution strategy, particularly around who should have taken a penalty and whether Nmecha's recent injury history justifies being withdrawn.
Leeds Facing Relegation Amid Perceived Bad Luck
Emerging Controversial
Fans are expressing sympathy for Leeds United's struggling season, with many convinced the club has been unfairly treated by the Premier League and undone by recent misfortune rather than poor performance. The discussion sits on a knife-edge between resignation and hope, as supporters grapple with the realistic prospect of the drop whilst clinging to the possibility of a dramatic escape.

Crystal Palace Fans Demand Change Amid Boring Football
Emerging
Crystal Palace supporters are expressing deep frustration with their team's dull, uninspiring performances and results, with many calling for managerial changes and questioning whether the current setup is even worth watching. The overwhelming negativity suggests fans have lost patience with the style of play and want significant changes before the season ends.
Fans Grip Seats Through Nervous Finish
A group of supporters are collectively relieved after their team scraped through a tense closing sequence, with comments suggesting they weathered an anxious final period before securing what sounds like a crucial result. The neutral sentiment reflects the emotional rollercoaster—nobody's celebrating wildly, but there's genuine relief that the job got done.
Tanaka Substitution Debate Divides Fan Opinion
Fans are split on whether bringing Tanaka on late in the match would provide useful energy and fresh legs, or whether it represents a defensive liability that could cost them the game. The discussion hinges on whether the tactical gamble of chasing a win is worth sacrificing the stability of their current midfield setup.
Fans Brace For Damage Control In Crisis
Supporters are bracing for a painful defensive battle after going down to ten men, with the conversation dominated by anxiety about conceding rather than any genuine hope of scoring. The prevailing mood is pure survival instinct—fans are essentially resigned to parking the bus and hoping to nick a result through sheer grit rather than football.
Leeds United Defiant Display Against The Odds
Emerging Controversial
Leeds fans are celebrating their side's gutsy performance after being reduced to ten men, with travelling supporters particularly praised for their backing throughout the match. Despite the numerical disadvantage in the second half, supporters believe the team earned a valuable away point through character and resilience, though some frustration lingers over the club's transfer window activity.
Fans Clash Over Referee Accountability Measures
A scattered debate erupted amongst supporters about potential reforms to how referees are held accountable, with fans unable to reach consensus—some backing the idea whilst others dismissed it as impractical or irrelevant. The discussion devolved into point-scoring and personal attacks rather than substantive argument about football governance.
Crystal Palace's Toothless Attack Sparks Relegation Fears
Emerging
Palace supporters are in full meltdown after their side failed to register a single shot on target against ten-man Leeds, with fans blaming manager Patrick Glasner's inflexible tactics and the squad's lack of clinical finishing for turning the club into a boring, ineffective outfit heading towards the Championship. The vitriol centres on poor attacking quality, predictable sideways passing, and fears that without serious changes in personnel and approach, relegation is a genuine threat.
Fans Explode Over Another PGMOL Refereeing Disaster
Premier League fans are furious about a controversial referee decision, with the majority convinced it represents systemic corruption within the PGMOL rather than simple incompetence. The anger is directed at the expectation that a standard apology letter will follow, which fans see as insulting given what they perceive as a pattern of egregious officiating errors.
Leeds Under Fire For Dreadful Midfield Performance
Leeds fans are tearing into their team's lacklustre display, with particular criticism aimed at the manager's inability to control players who seem to have mentally checked out on the pitch. The discussion descends into banter about Leeds' struggles, with supporters sarcastically referencing the club's broader failings and their drop down the leagues.
Ref Decisions Spark Fury Over Perceived Bias
Fans are absolutely livid about what they perceive as blatant refereeing inconsistency and favouritism, with multiple posts accusing officials of double standards and essentially cheating in favour of the opposition. The level of anger suggests this wasn't an isolated decision but rather the latest in a pattern of perceived injustice that's left supporters feeling completely let down by the integrity of the match.
Refs Bottled Consistency in Yellow Card Chaos
Fans are absolutely fuming that Gudmundsson received a second yellow for what they reckon was a softer challenge than the one from Johnson that only got a caution, with many suggesting the referee didn't even realise Gabi was already on a booking. The consensus is clear: the officiating was inconsistent, possibly vengeful following the club's previous complaints about refereeing, and cost them points they desperately needed in a relegation scrap.
Leeds United Fans Swap Banter Amid Promotion Talk
Leeds supporters are engaging in playful, mixed-sentiment discussion about their club's prospects, with some expressing optimism about a potential victory whilst others jab at the team's trajectory or joke about dropping down to the Championship. The conversation lacks serious analysis of refereeing—it's mostly casual team-focused chat, predictions, and the kind of back-and-forth banter you'd expect from a fanbase caught between hope and scepticism.
Controversial Call Divides The Fanbase
Fans are torn over a marginal offside or handball decision that's gone against their team, with the discussion split between frustration at VAR's involvement and grudging acceptance that the call might have been tight. The thread captures that classic moment when a stadium wakes up after a contentious refereeing decision—some are fuming, others are just getting into the match.
Penalty Miss Sparks Fury Over Missed Chances
Emerging
Fans are absolutely fuming after their side failed to register a single shot on target in a match against ten men, with particular rage directed at a missed penalty that epitomises their inability to convert opportunities. The consensus is brutal—lucky escape or not, this level of clinical finishing is completely unacceptable at this level.
Missing Munoz Exposes Attack Vulnerabilities
Fans are debating whether young winger Brennan Johnson's poor performance was down to his own immaturity or the absence of key left-back Muñoz, who usually provides crucial attacking support down that flank. The conversation splits between those defending Johnson's youth and those arguing the entire left-side system collapses without Muñoz's creative contributions.
Leeds Defence Crumbles in Shambolic Display
Leeds United supporters are lambasting their backline's performance, with particular criticism aimed at centre-backs Bijol and Struijk for nervous, error-prone play that's gifting possession to opponents. Fans are frustrated that a squad missing key players and lacking midfield creativity is being exposed defensively, turning matches into desperate, reactive affairs where they're simply hoping opponents don't capitalise.

"Looking like it'll be around 38 points (1 per game) for the relegation level. Leeds need a couple more wins, I'm getting a bit worried for them."
Wolves, Burnley, Brighton and Brentford games at home left. Spurs away which is basically a home game, too. Theres a great shot at two wins there. +
Yeah good they should be fine then. I had no idea what their run-in was
But you were worried?
Yes I was getting a bit worried for them. They're close to the relegation spots and I didn't realise they had an easier run in, so now I'm a bit less worried for them
I don’t see a world where spurs get more than 2 points in all their remaining games tbh, they play worse than wolves and it won’t be shocking if they go on to lose all their remaining matches
They'll beat us. We're in shocking form
Im probably insane but I can't shake the feeling they're getting 3 today
We'll come back to this in 90 minutes when they trounce Liverpool 8-0
We do have Burnley and Wolves home so if that's the mark, I'm confident. +
Yeah that's fair I think you're alright then +
"Some will be happy with that, I refuse to. Farke made the right changes, and even with the ref being beyond dogshit and sending off GG, we were the better team. This falls squarely on DCL. A Premier "
Players a lot better than Calvert Lewin have missed penalties by much greater distances than that. It happens.
And keepers much better than Perri have made much worse mistakes. Nobody said "It happens" he got dropped instead. I'm not saying DCL should be kicked out of the club, but this penalty miss is highlighting he's in poor form. Nmecha is playing better. Just give him a start.
I don't agree DCL should be dropped but I do think Nmecha should have taken the pen.
For me....it's not that he missed this one pen. It's that he blows away too many high xG chances! What DCL has going for him, is he as the quality to score that brilliant goal every once in a while. But the problem with that, is you look and say, "what quality he has". But it completely masks the fact he's never been consistent. Quality = yes. Consistency= no. He's never had that. And the latter is quite possibly more important than the former.
He'd scored 8/9 of his previous penalties. Nmecha should have taken it but it's not like DCL taking it was some sort of cardinal sin.
I had no issue with him taking it. I could have even forgiven him blasting it over. There's skill involved in placing it high. But rolling it tamely wide of a 24 foot target is not something I can forgive an experienced Premier league striker for.
I don't get this. Tons of top class penalty takers, better players than DCL, have missed the target from penalties in football. It's fine margins. Such a reactionary take. His form is not good, I understand from that angle.
Putting it over the bar is one thing. Rolling it wide of a 24 foot target from 12 yards is not fine margins. It's inexcusable.
Again, far better players than DCL have done it.  +
Insane take and based on pure emotion from a penalty miss. This is why fans don’t manage clubs lol.

In hindsight, I think it is funny. It's like that yellow card put us in a better position. Palace can't break down a low block. They had ZERO shots on target. Jonny Cooper on Twitter: Leeds United today are the first team Opta has on record since 2003-04 to not face a single shot on target in a match where they played the second half with 10 men. A real battling performance.
Extremely unproffesional behaviour. If the shoe was on the other foot, I'd just be waiting for us to be carded for it
Poor lad massively overestimated his team's attacking ability versus 10 men. Bit embarrassed for him.
The Palace board are STILL praising that celebration and calling him a legend for it… Yep, even post-failing to beat 10 men at home. Morons.
Lest we forget.
The commentary acting like this was so cute and funny and not completely pathetic behavior from a team that doesn't even have enough fans to fill its stadium
Yeah I’ve seen this sort of behaviour being lamented as if they should be banned from the game forever….bur when it happens against us it’s “cute”
"Gonna get down voted for this, but been saying for a while that Gudmundsson isn't yet at the level of this league. DCL is a bottom of the table striker in this league as well. (Here come the downs) "
I don't think we would've had much luck getting anyone much better, Nmecha has done well but he's often injured after a big performance. 10 goals is decent and goes a long way to keeping us up if it happens, but would really like to see him get some more now, it's been too long since even a goal now.
Well, this team has been built for "tip of the spear" type of attack. Outside of Brenden A., we don't have another winger who plays much. Okafor and James injured a lot. We've been playing with 1 winger all season. When you're giving up a winger for a midfielder, then your striker has to put in the easy ones, or it's going to be a struggle.
Gudmundsson has been one of our best signings, best LB we’ve had in years, he’ll be the first to get snapped up if we go down +
Why are you only judging him going forwards? You really think he's "best"?
I mean every single striker, unless you are world class, misses a lot of easy ones.
It’s because they look easy but they actually aren’t. The pace of the game is so fast in the prem you don’t get much time to pick a finish most of the time.
That's an English narrative, I"m sorry. The whole thing about "Easy chances aren't easy"......well, it's true from a pro vs. not pro pov. But among top pros.....I don't know if you lot watch any of Serie A, but these old journeymen in Serie A are making a lot more of those "easy ones" than a lot of the lads in the Prem do. Now, Serie A isn't at the Prem level overall, but that is mostly due to the tactics used there, and the less physical play, amount of running needed. But that also means that when the few chances created DO come.....they don't much tolerate missing sitters, among the top 6-8 teams especially.
I mean a lot of chances which look easy are only about .2 to .4 xg meaning there chances the majority of times a striker would miss statistically speaking. I think people underestimate the goalkeeper as well unless a player has a literal open goal it’s still a difficult chance as you need to be fairly precise a lot of the time to beat a good premier league goalkeeper. I wouldn’t necessarily say Foreign strikers are better i would say most of us dont watch full games in Italy and only see highlights so we don’t necessarily see the bad misses just the good finishes which test the goalie or lead to goals. I would also say it’s very easy to watch a chance from the stands or on the tele and think it looks easy but I can guarantee in reality it takes a lot of skill and composure to convert chances at a good rate in the premier league as the football is at a high level.
"Bad misses" happen everywhere. But I do watch full matches, and I'm telling you all right now, they don't happen nearly as often. Ademola Lookman would get flak in Italy for what they'd consider a "bad miss" but usually these were contested by a defender. Now you watch him in Spain, getting open nets and only the keeper to beat, and the look on his face is one of surprise and relief. In box defending in Serie A is generally better/stronger than it is in the Prem, especially on rebounds, and 2nd ball strikes. That is also part and parcel to why the Italians have done so poorly in the Champions League, because they play too slow, too defensive. But it does train attackers, and strikers, to have to be more clinical. Look at Tammy Abraham. He couldn't tie down a long term starting role at either Roma, or AC Milan. He is now at Villa, and has done pretty well when coming on, comparatively speaking. The Italian style is good for players who have high work rates, and don't have a clinical nature. They either get better there, or they don't play. As to xG. It's a stat that generally does represent chance creation and does that OK. But how it calculates the percentage on certain situations doesn't take into account things like how physically taller and more dominating a striker can be, and an open header,...etc. All I know, is that DCL had today, another ball put right on his head, and he had a lot of time to watch it, and aim it. And I don't hold the not scoring that against him, as much as the fact he did not keep that header down! He had time to keep that header down, and put it either side of the middle, which is hard to stop. Instead he put it straight at the keeper. I don't know what xG called that, but it's one of DCL's supposed strengths. When you do that poorly at one of your supposed strengths, then what can you do with your weaknesses?
DCL has 10 goals same as Danny Welbeck!
"We can talk about refs but you cannot make individual errors like that in a relegation battle. Putting a penalty wide and needlessly going to ground in the centre circle when you're on a booking are b"
Some many on this sub seem unaware of this simple point you've made. Undisciplined, unfocused play is exactly what gets us into this situation. If the officiating is poor, and you are already on a yellow, going in for a tackle like that invites trouble. It's not fair but players have to adjust.
Losing too many matches is how you get relegated. Making mistakes in one game is not.
That’s somehow nuanced and brain dead at the same time. Well done. Making mistakes in the one off games is why we’ve lost more games than we should have
My point is I'm sure any team in the league is capable of those 5 mins. We've got plenty of points on the board so far so we're quite clearly not destined for relegation. +
I mean that is just wrong. We are very clearly in a relegation battle. We could be in the relegation zone within a week
I didn't say we weren't? In the league that's our first missed pen this season (that hasn't led to a goal) and first red card. Clearly not been a problem for us.
You’ve just said ‘we are quite clearly not destined for relegation’ and that is just delusional. Enjoy the rest of your weekend
Christ. Quite obviously meaning we're not a terrible team, already in the bottom three with no hope of survival. Try and enjoy yours please.
I shall. Going for a curry for Mother’s Day and a few beers. Take my mind off being a Leeds fan for a bit. Yourself?
Sounds great. Think I'll enjoy that solid point on the road by a strong and resilient team! +
