How these roles work
Blamed (Causer)
Fans named this player as the direct cause of a negative outcome. Examples: "Maguire gave away the penalty", "Ten Hag's formation cost us". Scores are amplified when the causer is blamed clearly.
Sympathy (Victim)
This player was on the receiving end of something — a foul, a bad decision, being dropped, or let down by teammates. Fans feel for them rather than against them.
Credit (Beneficiary)
Fans gave this player clear credit for a positive outcome — a goal, an assist, a key moment. Includes players who enabled something good to happen. This is the co-winner of a match moment.

Captivating Talking Points
Think all the pundit and coverage have been agreeing the foul was clear in the aftermath. I've turned the coverage off now but if they're now questioning it, then that just means the producers have had time to realise that this is a ragebait subject they can benefit from. So if they are questioning it now then you know it's completely disingenuous

Entirely PGMOL's fault btw. They decided that corners and set pieces were to be a lawless land all season, and inevitably the season ends up hinging on a set piece foul. There's a reason the Prem has been so hard to watch. While UEFA has the handball shit all wrong, the directive is much better on set piece murder

Fans Furious at VAR Delay on Obvious Decision

Emerging

The discussion also branches into broadcaster coverage and commentary availability, with supporters debating which television networks have featured certain pundits on live football coverage in recent seasons.
Arsenal Fans Demand Dowman Over Madueke on the Wing
Emerging
Arsenal supporters are frustrated with Mikel Arteta's team selection, arguing that Dowman should be starting at right wing instead of Noni Madueke, with some criticising the manager's tactical choices as defensive and unambitious during a crucial match. The overwhelming consensus is that bringing on Dowman would represent a serious attempt to win, whereas persisting with current personnel signals Arsenal are content to settle for a draw against bottom-half opposition.

Emerging Controversial
Mateus Fernandes had a point-blank opportunity late in the match that he failed to convert, with supporters devastated that a goal would have shifted the title race dynamics against Arsenal. Emerging
Neutral observers and West Ham supporters are criticising Gary Neville's co-commentary for perceived Arsenal favouritism and claim his bias is influencing VAR decisions, particularly regarding a disallowed goal late in the match. Arsenal Survive Late Drama as VAR Denies West Ham Equaliser
Emerging Controversial

The controversy has overshadowed Leandro Trossard's 83rd-minute winner, with debate raging over whether stricter officiating ruined what could have been a dramatic finale.
Arsenal's Narrow Win Sparks Title Credentials Backlash
Emerging
West Ham supporters and neutrals are heavily criticising Arsenal's 1-0 victory, arguing that a five-point lead at the top of the table doesn't reflect a convincing title-winning performance given their struggles to break down a relegation-form side. The dominant sentiment questions whether Arsenal deserve to be called champions if they clinch the title, with fans pointing to draws against Manchester City and Chelsea and a lack of dominant victories as evidence of an underwhelming campaign.
Arteta's Tactical Disasters Cost Arsenal in West Ham Stalemate
Emerging
Arsenal fans are furious with Mikel Arteta's in-game decision-making, particularly his choice to move Declan Rice to right-back after Ben White's injury—a move that destabilised the midfield and invited West Ham back into the match. The discussion also criticises Arteta's defensive approach in the final minutes, his interactions with officials, and his substitution choices, with supporters questioning his tactical evolution and ability to manage leads.

"The goal was rightfully disallowed. However how many times have Arsenal got away with fouling goalkeepers this season?"
Find me one where Arsenal got away with holding the keeper .
If you start whatabouting you can point your finger at every team in the league in equal measure. But because Arsenal are at the top atm people would rather pin it all on them instead of looking in the mirror.
How many times have we gotten away with pulling the shirt of a goalkeeper, pushing his arm out of the way and putting an elbow on his neck, all while he had the control of the ball? Zero times.
We crowd the 6 yard box, and we engage in a bit of to and fro tussle with man marking outfield players. But I don't recall us scoring while actively pulling down the arm of the GK in mid air. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But, and obviously I'm biased here, this is way more egregious than any "dark arts" goal we've scored.
The referees have basically washed their hands out of officiating corners properly this season, much to Arsenal's benefit. To decide that they'll pick out that one foul out of everything going on in that box is pathetic
> However how many times have Arsenal got away with fouling goalkeepers this season? Pretty sure that if all they did was crowd Raya, the goal wouldve stood (however then Raya may simply have caught or hit it). You simply cannot actively pull a goalkeeper's arm down while he is midair
[Chelsea v Arsenal - Ben White Goal (2:15)](https://youtu.be/CiqytGuaoEs?si=MVzR9LIFWrx9Fkkl) Sanchez got impeded and his jersey pulled as he was jumping for the ball; as a result, he was unable to catch it and Arsenal scored. Goal was allowed, Chelsea lost the match 2-3.
You aren't seriously comparing this goal with one from the game just now are you?
Yes, that’s why I posted the comment.
Feel free to screenshot the frame where Sanchez' arms are being held down. Clearly you're watching a different clip than me
"I don’t mind that call, but it wouldn’t be anywhere near as important if they had consistently called fouls on keepers like that all season. "
This is it. I'd like the call and think this should always be called that way, even said that when we scored like that last year. But until they change it between seasons and then consistently apply it this way for an entire season, we've got to keep it the way it's been all year. Switching things up (and probably not with any lasting consistency either) mid season is just stupid.
And Arsenal have set the trend for that. I mean Arsenal goal on MD1 with Saliba pulling Bayindir comes to mind imediately. But he was supposed to be stronger then, and now it’s a clear foul. A joke.
They do consistently call those, you just hardly see many players braindead enough to do it. Grabbing the keepers arm is always a foul and with VAR will be given. The real question is why it took them 5 mins to figure it out.
I distinctly remember Ben White attempting to take off Vicarios glove on a corner E; actually think that was last season come to think of it
And the goal was removed if I remember correctly? So what the point?
It was funny +
Because they know Arsenal have scored half of their goals this season by fouling the keeper. Allowing them to benefit from both sides is ridiculous, even though this one is clearly a foul.
Soooo. What about UTD first game of the season?
I mean this in genuine good faith Do you have any examples of a keeper having their arm grasped by an attacker to prevent them claiming a ball that has resulted in a goal and not been given
This whole thread is full of people saying "Arsenal get away with holding keepers like that all the time." Then someone responds asking for proof and its silence, constantly. The only thing they ever produce is the Bayandir decisions which involves no arm holding at all.
"As a neutral I'm kind of shocked just how much people seem to hate Arsenal. Are they really so bad that you want City to win yet again?"
If you read much of the r/soccer discourse you really start to too feel like a lot of the posters don't even really like the game of football anymore. They're just in it for a feeling of elitism when their team wins. But when you don't get that...
Id wager most of them were laughing at us 5 years ago for not sacking Arteta.
I thing it is just the sheer size of fanbase. As one of the most supported clubs they have a looot of loud and cocky fans
from my understanding the backlash against arsenal is mostly pointed at annoying fans that can't control their own emotions rather than the club itself. I think there's a lot of unity against the behemoth that is Man City
It's embarrassing
The difference is no one knows any City fans in real life, whereas most people know plenty of obnoxious Arsenal fans in real life. The only people that don't understand this clearly didn't grow up in the UK.
It's always been like this don't let them hound you with Artetaball/Haremball bs. What they hate about us for changes with time. Used to be we were soft and played naive football and needed to toughen up. The only semi consistent thing is that they dislike the fanbase. Which is mostly confirmation bias of looking up AFTV clips and random bait.
not only that, but the alternative is an oil-money-backed team, with refs in their pockets, that is united’s in-town rival, and liverpool’s biggest rival for a decade. i’ll never truly understand this.
Look I'm not saying people gotta root for arsenal, but it's head scratching they'd much rather have 115fc sportswash the league than arsenal winning it after progressively getting better for the past 6 years. I remember wanting Liverpool to win against city all those years when arsenal wasn't competing for the title. Im all for stripping city's titles even if it means united get one, and I fucking loathe them from the Neville mauling reyes years. It's just mind-blowing people don't even remotely care about the integrity of the league
Extremely unlikeable team. Not just the time wasting antics and shithousery but actually very very unlikeable generally. Gabriel is a massive twat in particular. Arteta is the greasiest, cringiest little wet bag manager i have ever witnessed in my life. Their fans dont help either. Been embarassing this year.
"Where has VAR been all season? Arsenal have hands on the keeper at every corner. Huge asterisk on the PL this season."
Uh… you are welcome? Could’ve drawn and sent you down lmao
Why are you complaining we have just kept you up for a free 6 points next season
That was worse than anything we’ve done lol. You know it’s a foul
Finally somebody said it! +
No Arsenal have not had "their hands" on the keeper, more nonsense and gibberish. Have not happened once this season, but you lot just cannot accept it.
West Ham lost so you should be smiling, my guy
Arsenal have never put their hands on the goalkeepers hands when they are trying to catch the ball. The one time Ben white tried that a foul was given for the opposing team 😂so what’s your point )
@Nord1497the draw wouldn't have sent spurs down.
How are you so desperate to put arsenal down that you bot your likes 😂 be grateful that Tottenham’s big brother Arsenal saved them from relegation 😂
We just saved you from relegation you moron
"Not even an arsenal fan but most these guys protesting about the disallowed goal in the comments are just the ones who despise them and had an unsuccessful hatewatch. They full well know it was the co"
Put that foul on their goalkeeper and opinions would change guaranteed.
Yeah whatever angle is shown its a foul as clear as day .. even rivals know its a foul and next thing is some vague whattaboutism about arsenals corners haha
You don’t agree that your players have been doing the exact same thing to others teams goal keepers? Genuine question.
How
It was the correct decision, but Arsenal play horrible football, and have had a massive detriment on the joy of football because of the anti football Arteta advocates for. Not an Arsenal or City fan so have no skin in the game, but a few seasons ago Guardiola and Klopp played breathless, high pressing, attacking football. Arteta and Arsenal are making football less entertaining
It's the literal fact Arsenal have been doing it all season and haven't received consequences for it, but it happens once on the opposition side and all of a sudden it's a rule again?
Not like Pablo himself is getting rugby tackled at the same time, complete bias from the refs
Suddenly the rule where you can't impose any contact on the opposition goalkeeper or defenders to increase your chances of scoring has suddenly returned?😊 Arsenal have been committing far worse actual fouls and not just minimal contact for 2 seasons and they are never punished. 😭 Raya flapped at the ball and failed to clear it or catch it, sustained less contact than the Arsenal players commit against opposition defenders and goalkeepers all the time. The have done for two seasons. Rice and Trossard were fouling the West Ham players during the same corner and they were not punished. If Trossard didn't foul Pablo then his arm wouldn't have made contact with Raya.😮
@OzzersOz im not an arsenal but that was the correct decsion from VAR it stings to be a west Ham fan rn but that was fair from VAR
The inconsistency is what people are angry about

Arsenal have taken the piss on corners all season, but so have most teams. You can't grab a goalkeepers arm when he's in the process of catching a ball off a cross, simple as. If that had stood it would have been one of the most egregious decisions in some time.
