How these roles work
Blamed (Causer)
Fans named this player as the direct cause of a negative outcome. Examples: "Maguire gave away the penalty", "Ten Hag's formation cost us". Scores are amplified when the causer is blamed clearly.
Sympathy (Victim)
This player was on the receiving end of something — a foul, a bad decision, being dropped, or let down by teammates. Fans feel for them rather than against them.
Credit (Beneficiary)
Fans gave this player clear credit for a positive outcome — a goal, an assist, a key moment. Includes players who enabled something good to happen. This is the co-winner of a match moment.

Rotten season, everything went wrong and we approached today with about the same importance as those friendlies in Australia a couple of years ago.
I said I wanted to give Howe and the new recruitment team a chance and phoning it in with a disinterested group of players on the last day of the season doesn't change that.

Last game of the season, 9 months later and he's playing 3-5-2, we look stodgy and lacking ideas.

Fan Narratives
Newcastle Fans Demand Set Pieces Overhaul After Defeat
Emerging
Newcastle supporters are venting frustration at their set piece coaching after losing 2-0 to Fulham, with multiple posts calling for the set pieces coach to be sacked for seemingly offering no tactical direction. The discourse has broadened into wider concerns about Eddie Howe's reluctance to change his coaching staff and the team's toxic atmosphere heading into next season.
Fulham Fans Turn on Each Other Over Negativity
Rather than debating specific refereeing decisions from the match itself, Fulham supporters have descended into a meta-argument about the club's fanbase being unbearably melodramatic and divided. The discussion reveals deep frustration with how the community discusses problems—with fans accusing each other of toxic behaviour, downvoting disagreement, and treating football disappointments as life-threatening crises rather than engaging in genuine discourse.
Newcastle Fans Debate Woltemade's Tactical Role and Future
Emerging
Newcastle supporters are expressing frustration over Nick Woltemade's positioning and usage, with debate centring on whether he's being misdeployed at centre midfield rather than his preferred number 10 role, whilst questioning whether Eddie Howe will substitute him early as part of a broader pattern of poor tactical decisions.
Newcastle Fans Criticise Lewis Hall's Right-Back Display
Newcastle supporters have turned their focus on Lewis Hall's performance in an unfamiliar right-back position, with multiple fans suggesting his display was amongst his worst this season, marked by poor decision-making and a general lack of composure. The criticism centres on Eddie Howe's tactical decision to shift Hall out of position rather than addressing the right-back problem through alternative solutions.
Newcastle Fans Lament Missed European Opportunity
Newcastle supporters are expressing frustration over a disappointing league season that fell agonisingly short of European qualification, despite competitive cup runs under Eddie Howe. Fans are debating whether the campaign represents underperformance relative to expectations set during the summer, or whether finishing 13th with 45 points still represents progress given the club's recent history under previous ownership.
Newcastle Fans Demand Eddie Howe's Future Resolved
Emerging
Controversial
Newcastle supporters are deeply divided over Eddie Howe's future following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Fulham, with a significant faction calling for his immediate departure due to poor league form and tactical rigidity, whilst others acknowledge his cup performances and suggest patience—though most agree the uncertainty needs settling before next season. The debate is intensifying as rivals like Arsenal claim the title and Sunderland secure European football, amplifying fears that Newcastle's ambition is stalling under the current regime.
Newcastle Players Criticised In Fulham Defeat
Newcastle supporters are expressing frustration with individual player performances during their 2-0 loss to Fulham, with particular criticism directed at midfielders and defenders who struggled to maintain possession and contribute effectively. The discussion reflects broader discontent with the squad's overall quality this season, though some fans defend certain players as deserving credit despite difficult circumstances.
Newcastle Fans Criticise Osula's Isolation in Toothless Attack
Controversial
Newcastle supporters are frustrated that Osula, deployed on the right wing, received virtually no service throughout the match—with some counting just two touches in the first half—as the team's direct, long-ball approach and poor tactical shape left the winger stranded and unable to influence play. Fans lay blame on Eddie Howe's lineup and system rather than the player himself, arguing that Newcastle's attacking play has been disjointed all season with players consistently out of position.
Newcastle Fans Bid Grim Farewell to Disastrous Season
Controversial
Newcastle supporters are expressing profound relief and despair that the 2025-26 campaign is finally over, with widespread calls to completely disregard the entire season as a write-off and move forward. Fans are emotionally drained by a season they consider a disaster, with some questioning whether supporting the club is even worth the mental toll.
Newcastle Fans Vent Frustration After Fulham Defeat
Emerging
Newcastle supporters are expressing deep disappointment following their 2-0 loss to Fulham, with particular criticism aimed at the team's lack of attacking quality and what some perceive as complacent fan attitudes at St James's Park. The negativity extends beyond the match itself, with fans venting about broader issues including the season's trajectory, commercialisation of the club, and the contrast between vocal supporter sections and those they view as passive.
Newcastle Fans Criticise Dan Burn's Positioning and Attitude
Newcastle supporters have vented frustration at defender Dan Burn's unconventional deployment and perceived lack of professionalism during the match, with particular anger directed at him playing out of position and his apparent mental approach to the game. The negativity reflects broader disappointment with his performance and decision-making on the pitch.
Fulham Fans Frustrated With Wissa's Display
Fulham supporters were heavily critical of Yoane Wissa's performance in midfield during the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, questioning both his positioning and quality on the ball while expressing regret over recruitment decisions involving the player. The negativity intensified after he picked up a yellow card, with fans questioning whether he justifies his place in the squad.
Newcastle Fans Turn on Eddie Howe After Fulham Loss
Emerging
Newcastle supporters are calling for manager Eddie Howe's dismissal following a 2-0 defeat to Fulham, criticising his tactical inflexibility, poor squad management, and inability to get attacking players working effectively within his system. The discussion centres on whether Howe has taken the club as far as he can, with fans questioning his loyalty to underperforming players and his lack of a Plan B during drab performances.
Newcastle Fans Divided on Bruno Guimarães' Surrender
Newcastle supporters are sharply split over Bruno Guimarães' display against Fulham, with some arguing the captain gave up after receiving a yellow card and played it safe with the World Cup in mind, whilst others defend his commitment and blame the manager's tactics and the team's dismal season instead. The discourse exposes deep frustration at the club's collapse, with fans using Bruno's perceived withdrawal as a symptom of a broader malaise rather than the root cause.
Newcastle Fans Puzzle Over Tonali's Absence
Newcastle supporters are debating why midfielder Sandro Tonali didn't feature against Fulham, with some claiming he picked up a warm-up injury whilst others speculate about summer departures and Manchester United links. The discussion reveals anxiety about the midfield's depth without him, particularly given Bruno Guimarães' unconvincing display in the 2-0 defeat.
Newcastle Fans Blame Lazy Pressing for Defeat
Newcastle supporters are furious at their team's refusal to close down Fulham players, particularly highlighting the ease with which both goals were conceded from poor defensive positioning and a lack of intensity off the ball. Fans see the loss as symptomatic of a broader tactical problem—passive midfield work and allowing opposition space to shoot from distance—rather than an issue of individual quality or injuries.
Fulham Fans Fear Summer Exodus Without Europe
Fulham supporters are deeply anxious about losing key players to bigger clubs and recruitment disasters, with fans expressing frustration over past transfer failures and warning that missing European football next season could trigger a damaging exodus. The fanbase is so demoralised by the club's transfer record that some are considering stepping back from following the team until the window closes.
Newcastle Fans Savage Willock's Wayward Finishing and Laziness
Newcastle supporters are tearing into Joe Willock for a terrible shooting display during the defeat to Fulham, criticising his selfish decision-making, poor technique, and apparent lack of effort on the pitch. The midfielder faces calls to be dropped or sold after what fans describe as a display of individual inconsistency and lack of team play when clearer passing options were available.
Fulham and Newcastle Fans React to Drab 2-0 Stalemate
Emerging
Controversial
Supporters from both sides were underwhelmed by the quality of football on display in a match decided by Issa Diop and Tom Cairney goals, with much of the post-match discussion pivoting into drinks recommendations and complaints about the eight minutes of added time rather than genuine tactical analysis. The neutral sentiment reflects a widespread sense of disappointment at a forgettable contest that failed to captivate either fanbase.
Fulham Fans Turn on Elanga After Disappointing Season
Emerging
Controversial
Supporters are expressing deep frustration with winger Elanga's failure to deliver on his £55 million price tag, criticising his inability to score a single Premier League goal across the entire campaign despite significant opportunities to prove himself. The discussion reflects a fractured fanbase—some defending the initial logic of the signing whilst others demanding his departure, with the overall consensus that this transfer deal has simply not worked out at Craven Cottage.
Cairney's Clinical Finish Exposes Newcastle's Defensive Fragility
Controversial
Neutral observers and fans are dissecting Fulham's dominant 2-0 victory, with particular focus on Tom Cairney's well-taken second goal and the shocking defensive lapses that allowed it—notably Newcastle's failure to close down space and Malick Thiaw's positioning errors for Issa Diop's opener. The consensus is that Fulham's clinical finishing and Newcastle's passive defending told the entire story of a one-sided contest.
Newcastle Fans Slam Defensive Formation as Tactical Panic
Newcastle supporters are heavily criticising Eddie Howe's switch to a back five, viewing it as an overreactive panic move that's left the team tactically confused and the forwards isolated against Fulham. Multiple fans are questioning why the formation was abandoned from the previous week's 4-2-3-1 setup, pointing out that Newcastle lack the specialist wing-backs needed to make a three-centre-back system work.
Fulham and Newcastle Fans Clash Over Controversial Display
Fans are sharply divided on whether Fulham's 2-0 victory over Newcastle represented entertaining football or merely melodramatic, unconvincing play, with dismissive replies dominating a largely neutral discussion about the match's quality. The sparse, contradictory nature of the posts suggests deep disagreement about what unfolded on the pitch, with some defending the result whilst others dismiss it outright.
Fans Await Megathread After Disappointing Result
Supporters are expressing frustration with the match outcome and eager to move into the megathread discussion, with some joking they want to forget the performance entirely. The tone is weary resignation mixed with dark humour about what the off-season holds.
Fulham Dismantle Newcastle in Chaotic Final Day Clash
Emerging
Controversial
Fulham produced a dominant display to beat Newcastle 2-0 through goals from Issa Diop and Tom Cairney, with fans mocking Newcastle's capitulation in the final stages and questioning how the visitors offered so little resistance. The match sparked wider debate about Fulham's inconsistency across the season and frustration from Newcastle supporters over their team's collapse in the closing minutes.
Newcastle Fans Demand Better From Pope In Goal
Newcastle supporters are fixating on goalkeeper Nick Pope's performance during the 2-0 defeat to Fulham, with some defending his display on the day whilst others expressing deep frustration about his overall contribution and calling for the club to move on from him. The discourse reveals a fanbase divided on whether Pope is the solution between the sticks, with several posts suggesting his lack of distribution and command of the box are holding the team back.
Spurs Survival Drama Splits Fan Opinion on Relegation Battle
Neutral observers are divided over whether Tottenham's last-day survival deserves celebration or mockery, with simultaneous focus on West Ham's surprising win and Everton's failure to mount a comeback that could have changed the relegation picture. The discussion reveals frustration at how results elsewhere are determining fates in the bottom half rather than teams' own performances.
Fulham's Late Season Flourish with Diop and Cairney
Fulham supporters are celebrating a dominant 2-0 victory against Newcastle, with Issa Diop's early header and Tom Cairney's late finish showcasing improved attacking shape and tactical adjustments that came too little too late in the season. The positivity is tempered by frustration that this level of performance wasn't sustained throughout the campaign, with fans noting the club finally found their rhythm just as the season winds down.
Newcastle Fans Demand Manager Sacking After Poor Season
Newcastle supporters are furious with Eddie Howe's management following a disappointing campaign, with dozens of posts calling for his immediate dismissal rather than waiting until the summer. Fans argue the club's ambitions to compete amongst the Premier League's elite cannot coexist with another season under his stewardship, viewing a managerial change as overdue.
Rivals' European Success Overshadows Poor Campaign
Fans are grimly acknowledging a disappointing league season, made worse by the fact that Sunderland have qualified for European football despite their own struggles. The discussion centres on frustration that their rivals' relative success compounds what's been a difficult campaign, with some dark humour about watching the Mackems compete in Europe while they face another season without continental competition.
Newcastle Fans Divided Over Manager Future After Fulham Loss
Newcastle supporters are debating their manager's future and squad quality after a disappointing defeat, with some questioning his ability to deliver next season whilst others argue he deserves backing and better players to work with. The discussion reveals fractured fan opinion on whether the club should stick with him or move on, despite reports suggesting the decision to keep him has already been made.
Fulham Fans Bitter as Newcastle Secure European Football
Fulham supporters are frustrated watching Newcastle qualify for European football despite inconsistent form, with many convinced they've lucked into a Conference League spot that they don't deserve and won't survive next season. The tone is one of resigned annoyance—acknowledging Newcastle's qualification is mathematically secured but lamenting that Fulham could have easily claimed that same European berth with better consistency across the campaign.
Manager and Squad Shake-Up Demands After Stalemate
Fulham supporters are divided over whether their manager or playing squad deserves the bulk of criticism following the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, with some calling for wholesale changes to coaching staff and personnel whilst others defend cup progress and argue the talent simply isn't there to compete. The underlying frustration centres on a perceived lack of progress and questions about whether the current setup can elevate the club from mid-table mediocrity.
Newcastle Fans Demand Player Exit After Fulham Loss
Newcastle supporters are calling for a player's immediate departure from the club following the 2-0 defeat to Fulham, with widespread frustration over his performance and conduct on the pitch. The negativity extends to questions about the club's leadership and management, with fans expressing deep dissatisfaction at the end result.
Newcastle Fans Furious at Meaningless Performance Collapse
Newcastle supporters are expressing deep frustration with their side's apathetic display in what appears to be a dead-rubber fixture, with many convinced players have mentally checked out and questioning whether the club is in genuine decline. The discussion reveals a fanbase torn between anger at the players' apparent lack of effort and internal division over whether to excuse poor performances given the game's lack of stakes.

Underperformed everywhere this season. Dreadful signings, abject performances and utterly ineffective coaching. Players didn’t turn up. Management didn’t turn up.
The most galling thing is the lack of accountability.

The best fan quotes from this match — the funny, the sharp, the viral. These are ready to use in your video, in subtitles, or as thumbnails.
"The last 20 minutes or so were the most pathetic display I've seen from Newcastle this season, which is saying something. No idea how Fulham didn't grab a couple more goals."
"We'll be relegated next season if Howe's still in charge"
"What a goal from Tom Crainey 3rd times always a charm"
"Shocking from malick thiaw for the first goal.
Osula should have scored
Cairney able to shoot from anywhere as noone closes hm down.
I hope next season is much better...."
"Didn't mind losing last week. We won.
Needed to win this week. We lost."
"What did we need to win for, a few million extra quid off the EPL?
Our season ended back in March."
"“Isak ruined our season by leaving”
Genuinely saw multiple mentions of this in our match thread today.
Interested in hearing from people who still genuinely believe Isak is to blame for our bad season, what’s your actual rationale/logic?
I’m sure most of you will say “Howe built his system around Isak and it worked wonders”, however I would counter that and say “Howe’s system worked wonders because Isak made it work”.
Isak was so isolated, as was Wilson, for so many games under Howe. Just like Osula was today (2 touches in 45 minutes btw).
Yet it’s still not a system problem for some people, I just don’t get it. "
"That was utter dogsh!t. Failed at every opportunity to salvage something from this season. We are second to Sunderland in every aspect this year. I truly hope there are some major shake ups this summer."
"Fuck it! Season is over, no where near relegation, some super hard European matches (which is what we desire) some decisions didn’t go our way but that’s the same all round this season! Squad not big enough or strong enough for top level at the moment, we will build when allowed! This season has been nowhere near what they were like under Ashley, move forwards!! TOON TOON!!"
"For some of the Mile Ashley years I would have snapped your hands off for 12th and a good CL run. Only good thing about Sunderland getting into Europe is the extra games they will play will exhaust them and help us beat them next year. Man U will also struggle in CL for extra games and depth so I’m confident next year will be much better and maybe even back in the CL again.
If we do sell thanks Gordon, Tonali and maybe Tino but we absolutely have to keep Bruno as the heartbeat of the club (Hall, Thiaw and Miley too also must keep imo). Let’s learn from last year and do business early and let players go who want to move.
Enjoy the WC and hoping some of our players (ideally England but not holding my breath) can win it (like Guivarc’h back in 98).

Is this what it’s come to? If you don’t give a shit about the results, why follow football in the first place?
you can do one. Fucking hell. They are keeping the shite man in charge for next season. We have had enough.
This sub has become absolutely unbearable. Sick to death of it tbf

Well go and sit in n the corner and clap happily

They saw the team today with key players missing or playing out of position and thought "great, if we get beat that'll give me plenty of ammo." Would have heard a pin drop if we'd won.
Imagine caring about the football team you support!
I do worry about some people on here's mental health. Like how do they deal with any sort of negative events in their own life?

Is talking about it not a good way to deal with it?
"Best ever finish in the Champions' League, in case you've forgotten..."
"Best ever finish in the Champions' League, in case you've forgotten..."
The problem is that we’re not in Europe next season and that creates a danger of losing some of our best players and struggling to recruit anyone of similar quality.
In the current format that the least we should be doing. Then Barca destroyed us.
And then humiliated and knocked out.
Definitely a big asterisk though. New format makes it easy to make playoffs, and we drew qarabag. Very different to previous format. We definitely played better last time, even though we went further this time.
Tbf, we would have underperformed had we not qualified for the knockouts of the champions league. Every PL team that qualifies, with their resources, should be qualifying from the group stages under the new format.
I'm not Howe out, but we accomplished the absolute bare minimum you'd expect from us in the UCL this season. Bringing this point up over and over again is just silly.
In a new, much easier format where we got battered 8-3 on aggregate in the final game
↳
...by the Spanish league champions who ended their domestic season on 94 points. It's not like we went out to Kyriat Almaty.
↳
Thats not my point, you cant just say "Best ever finish in the champions league" and leave out all of the important context, we've had an abhorrent season and no amount of "oh but we did this" is going to change that
It'll be great to challenge that record again next season! Oh wait, the fucking Mackems are getting the passports out, not us.
"Over 700m spent since the takeover to finish on the same points as big Steve Bruce's last end of season points total, beautiful."
"Over 700m spent since the takeover to finish on the same points as big Steve Bruce's last end of season points total, beautiful."
What a worthless thing to say. Completely dismissing the achievements in the intervening years.
How was Bruce's CL campaign that year?
Why have you ignored the trophy win and the 2x CL campaigns? Those things that Bruce couldn't even dream of.
↳
I haven't, I'm forever grateful, but with that amount of money spent you should never finish equal or below that points tally. If you don't think that's fair I can't help you.
↳
So why didn't you mention it? Similar things have happened to Chelsea, Spurs and Man Utd.
There's no rules. Football isn't an exact science. And nobody said our progress would be linear.
↳
This is such a big point people overlook. How many billions have Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs spent in the last five years to go round in circles and cycle through managers. It's sport - it's very rare for teams to be brilliant season after season after season.
↳
Exactly. If teams bigger and more successful than us aren't exempt from these types of season, then I've no idea why people think we would be.
Our progress was never going to be linear, there was always going to be ups and downs.
↳
*is
Even in the future, the progress won't be linear.
Thanks for pointing it out though. People need to realise this.
like how you didn't mention the 2 CL qualifications and the cup win.
When we lost Isak the way we did, what were you expecting coming in to this season?
↳
Iraola lost half his team, replaced them with some coins he found down the back of the couch and they got better. Brentford lost their manager, captain and top two scorers and bettered us. We lost one player and slipped 7 places down the table.
"[deleted]"
"[deleted]"
Fucking hell - this isn’t even in the top 5 worst I’ve seen in the past 30. Go outside and get some air.
Mid table. Last 16 of the champions league, and a semi-final.
Have a word mate.
Most certainly isn't.
Getting relegated with abject performances was much worse.
This is just objectively not true. Crap season yes, losses to Mackems hurts, but we didn't get relegated, league cup semi, Champions league last 16. Plus a mid-table finish. It can (and has been) way worse. I'd agree that with the new owners, new expectations should be set, and this season was not at that level, but it was far from the worst season ever.
Some short memories around here, not long ago we were in West Hams shoes
It's obviously not. Some of our fans have lost their heads since the takeover.
Chances are you're a bandwagon fan?
Imagine having a Champions League run like they had and calling it one of the worst seasons in history. Some of you are wild.
6 years ago this would have been a incredibly successful season you dildo.
Hahahahahaha! Absolute melodrama. Jesus Christ, ya muppet.
Bit extreme
"This place is just going to be pathetically unbearable for the next few months isn't it?

"This place is just going to be pathetically unbearable for the next few months isn't it?
See ya. "
Aye, it became unbearable a while ago.
Not saying things are peachy, but I don't get what catharsis people find out of being so negative. Nee one gives a fuck about what anyone comments here, the chairman isn't sitting in his office thinking 'fuck me that u/BumLicker69420SkibidiToilet should be doing Eddie's job'... Some were legitimately saying this is worse than Ashley days, I think that's when I had to take a timeout.
I'll dip in over the summer, but my god I have such a low tolerance for Internet anger and plastic behaviour.
Exactly. Some people have no perspective.
No one cares that ya going dont need to announce it
↳
Don't worry they'll still be commenting all summer long
↳
Really cute of a mod to care about the users of a sub...
Come on Nev, be better man. I'm not saying you have to give up having your own opinion, but at least draw the line at criticising other fans/users here or making them "other".
Or don't be a mod?
↳
Mods aren't some special class of user, above/better than the rest. I'm not different from anybody else. All I do is just tidy up the place a little. Hell, as a mod, I allow people to say stuff to me that would get them banned if they said to it anybody else because if I ban somebody for personally insulting me, it'll be viewed as an overreach of mod "power". And the above is an incredibly harmless comment anyway.
↳
I mean, we're in danger of getting into a meta discussion here, but mods absolutely are a special class of user.
Some people will see the mod tag and take it more to heart about whether they are welcome or not, for one.
Of course others take it as a challenge and will go at you more often, so I don't begrudge you that. But my intention with the reply was to hope you, as a mod, would be more of a builder of the subreddit rather than splitting it apart into ins/outs/shake it all abouts and us vs them Etc. Especially after a match when emotions are running high.
As I said, can't fault you for having your own opinions and it's clearly good to get your input on things as a fan, but mods absolutely have a responsibility to the subreddit.
Anyway, I'm about done with football for this weekend (and maybe til the world cup), so all the best.
This sub crossed the pathetically unbearable line a while ago.
↳
That's when I knew I'd found my people.
Yeah. Like it or not, the decision has seemingly been made that he's staying into next season.
So maybe don't throw toys out the pram because we lose an irrelevant match to Fulham with an absolute hodge podge of players playing in random positions.

FA Cup 5th - Man City.
League Cup semis - City.
PL - 4 points off Europe.
Compared to recent times, it was a disappointment but having said that, compared to most of the last 25 years this year would have been a huge achievement! Perspective.
